Fire-breathers, bearded ladies, acrobats and razor-blade eating clowns await you this July
Roll up! Roll up! The circus is coming to London town, but not as you know it. The legendary Lagunitas Beer Circus is not for kids, but that doesn't mean you should leave your playful side at home. Join the beer-loving crowds at Flat Iron Square on Saturday 20 July for a day that celebrates the daring, the individual and the proudly freakish.
The space between the indie eateries and street food vendors will be brought to life with circus-style entertainment that will have you questioning the limits of human ability. All of this is accompanied by craft beer from the California-based brewery Lagunitas. It's as though all your childhood circus memories grew up, developed a rebellious streak and opened a bar.
This annual celebration of individuality and all things weird and wild has become an anticipated event in the States, touring through Petaluma, Seattle and Chicago before landing in the UK. Last year saw Lagunitas Beer Circus travel across the pond for the first time. After a successful pilot in London, the event is back and promising more live music, death-defying acts and plenty of craft beer to sample between shows.
The previous line-up impressed us with fire-breathers, bearded ladies, acrobats and razor-blade eating clowns, so who knows what unexpected acts will take to the stage this July. The full details are still to be revealed, but you can guarantee there will be stunts and tricks that leave your jaw hanging on the floor.
The Ringmaster and his marching band will lead proceedings, introducing us to acts that have to be seen to be believed. Quirky live bands are set to provide the perfect soundtrack, accompanying Lagunitas' beer selection which aims to shake things up and defy the rules of beer-making. It all blends together to support the Lagunitas philosophy of 'seeing things you can't unsee.'
The extensive beer menu will feature Lagunitas' signature IPA and a selection of brewery favourites, one-offs, limited releases and plenty of pints from guest breweries too, so you'll be among friends no matter what you choose.
Make sure you come dressed in your finest freakery for a chance to take home the prize at the costume competition. The whole day is about defying normality and being whatever you want, so stepping out of the ordinary is positively encouraged. There will also be bizarre carnival-style games to test your skills after a couple of pints, with plenty of prizes up for grabs.
The £20 ticket price covers your choice of an afternoon (12.30pm–5pm) or evening session (6.30pm–11pm), and includes a welcome beer and additional beer token. What's more, all profits from the day go to the local charity Street Vet, so every minute of your revelery will be helping to look after homeless dogs across the UK.
Throw off the shackles of the mundane and let your freak flag fly by running away to the circus this 20 July.
Lagunitas hosts this circus spectacular, featuring more than a hundred performers across two stages. Witness burlesque and sideshow acts, aerialists, live music and games – and, of course, beers a-plenty to sample.
