Heads will roll…
Edinburgh's ultimate underground history experience, The Edinburgh Dungeon is bringing Mary Queen of Scots to life with an extra-scary, brand new show, launching on Saturday 26 January to coincide with the release of the new Hollywood film.
Packed with scares and surprises, the hair-raising finale show of the Dungeon tour will focus on Mary's doomed relationships. Manipulated and betrayed throughout her life by power-hungry politicians and courtiers who sought to dominate her, Mary was made a pawn in their own race to steal her crown and rule.
Tales will be told, castle walls will shake, spirits will awaken and heads will most definitely roll…
A total of 15 women will take on the part of Mary out of Edinburgh Dungeon's professional troupe of approximately 36 actors, throughout the show's two month run. The cursed Queen joins a roster of notorious characters at The Dungeon, including cannibal Sawney Bean and his human-hungry family, murderous duo Burke & Hare and bad-ass Edinburgh witch Agnes Finney.
In addition to the new show, Edinburgh Dungeon will be inviting its social media followers to send Queen Mary activity suggestions for her "bucket list" – the best of which Mary will tick off before the axe takes its final blow. A pop-up executioner's block will also be set up at The Dungeon for one day only, with polls to be run to determine who else – or what else – deserves the chop in 2019. Is it a certain politician? Or a recently launched vegan sausage roll?
