Edinburgh Zoo's winter event features hundreds of gigantic lanterns inspired by mythical creatures from Scottish and Chinese folklore

The Giant Lanterns of China return to Edinburgh Zoo this winter for Edinburgh Zoo's biggest ever event. Discover a new and exciting adventure as Scottish myths, ancient Chinese legends and incredible creatures come to life.

The enchanting trail around the Zoo was created by 200 specialist artisans from China and took over 100 days to construct. Escape into a world of folktales and fantasy with over 450 beautifully crafted lanterns lighting a trail through the Zoo, constructed with 50,000 metres of fabric and 80,000 LED lights. For 50 nights, you can see unicorns, giants, kelpies and even the Loch Ness Monster, alongside animals past and present.

This unique and special event also includes regular performances from Chinese entertainers, handmade crafts from Chinese artisans in a festive marketplace and seasonal hot drinks and snacks to keep you warm.

The event has 15 minute entry time slots from 4.45pm to 7.30pm for a 8.45pm finish (start times vary during February). You will be asked to select an entry time after you have chosen your tickets. Book now to visit Scotland's only Chinese lantern festival. Brought to you in partnership with the VYA Creative Lantern Company, DDM Entertainment and Events Inc and the Confucius Institute for Scotland.
