Star Trek Discovery Season 2 and the finale of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are the new year highlights
It's one of those good news, bad news kinda months at Netflix as it kicks off 2019 by saying 'hello again' to the crew of the USS Discovery and 'goodbye' to Kimmy Schmidt. The trailer for the second season of Star Trek Discovery is absolutely spectacular (see it below) and has raised our expectations for a distinctly cinematic installment of the franchise, with Anson Mount joining the show as Captain Christopher Pike and Ethan Peck as a young Spock. Sonequa Martin-Green stars again when the season premieres on 18 Jan, with the great Michelle Yeoh also returning.
Stock up on tissues as the finale episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt land 25 Jan. The very popular and endearing comedy has just seven episodes to go and Netflix will be a sadder place without it. If you're not up to speed with the show you've got Christmas to binge away.
In other bittersweet news, The Punisher Season 2 is slated for release in January, exact date is TBC. That'll likely be the final season after news that Netflix has cancelled the Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist (we didn't lose sleep over the latter to be fair).
There's also two brand new shows weren't looking forward to checking out, superheroes adventure show Titans and drama Sex Education starring Gillian Anderson as a sex therapist (both 11 Jan). That segues nicely into the premiere of Fifty Shade Darker (26 Jan) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (20 Jan).
Enjoy and happy new Netflix year!
