Collect your Christmas tree or have it delivered in the Edinburgh and Glasgow area
With December nearly upon us, we can't deny that Christmas is coming for much longer. So with that in mind, it's time to start putting up decorations and getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year (if you haven't already, you Christmas-loving you). The tree is, without a doubt, the centrepiece of the holiday season, and knowing where to get the freshest, greenest pines is essential to prevent your Christmas turning into Grinch's playground. Here are all the best places to get your Christmas tree from in the Edinburgh and Glasgow areas.
Glasgow and surrounding area
If you tend to feel slightly guilty when you use a real tree to decorate your home every holiday season, Caring Christmas Trees (various outlets, 0345 111 8733, caringchristmastrees.com) is exactly where you need to go. All of their trees are freshly-cut, grade 1 standard Nordman Firs and, most importantly, grown sustainably. Any tree you get from Caring Christmas Trees is grown specifically to be a Christmas tree, is replaced after being harvested, and helps thousands of homeless people across Scotland. The deadline for delivery in Glasgow and Edinburgh has passed, but you can still collect (and pick) your own on a number of dates. Prices range from £35–£55 (depending on size), and you can even add a base to make sure your tree is at its healthiest throughout Christmas.
Anniesland Christmas Trees (07936372761, annieslandchristmastrees.com) has been supplying trees to the west of Glasgow for 17 years, and they are back in 2018 with their selection of Nordmann Fir, Fraser Fir and Lodgepole pine trees, all at £25. This family-run business will once again set up shop at Anniesland Morrison's from Sat 1 Dec, between 8am and 8pm.
With 100% of their trees sourced in Scotland, Real Christmas Trees (07982 184 993 / 07494 634 631, realchristmastreesglasgow.co.uk), based in Bishopbriggs, sell Nordmann Fir and Fraser Fir. Starting at £30, they will also deliver the tree of your choice to you completely free of charge. If you are one of their regular customers, do be advised that they are not collecting household trees after Christmas anymore.
You can get locally sourced, freshly cut Nordman Fir, Fraser Fir and Lodgepole Pine from XMas Trees Glasgow (Castlemilk, 07833 457802 / 07909 561726, xmastreesglasgow.co.uk). You don't have to worry about picking your chosen one up if you live in the Glasgow area, but you can visit them to take a look at their stock between 10am and 7.30pm. Prices start at £35.
If you fancy a drive to the northwest of Glasgow, you can drop by West of Scotland Christmas Trees (Milngavie / Bearsden, 07470 351 774, christmastreesglasgow.co.uk) to take a look at their selection of Fraser Fir, Norway Spruce, Nordmann Fir, Scots Pine and Noble Fir. They use a unique pricing model, starting at £4 per foot, and delivery is also available at £7–10.
Edinburgh and surrounding area
Right in the centre of the Scottish capital, Green Fir Christmas Trees (0131 618 2875, edinburghchristmastrees.com) has on offer Nordmann Fir trees between 5 and 13ft, with prices going from £60 to £175 at their tallest. Their free delivery service covers the areas of Edinburgh North, Edinburgh South, Midlothian and Peebles, and you don't have to pay until the tree is right at your doorstep.
Buying a Christmas tree should be simple, and that's how Real Christmas Trees (Mussleburgh, 07501 157 146, edenchristmastrees.co.uk) keep it. You can either go to their outlet location at Edenmill Industrial Estate to hand-pick your desired tree (Mon–Fri 9am–6pm, Sat & Sun 9am–5pm), or you can order it online and have it come to you for free.
At the East Lothian Christmas Tree Centre (Tranent, 01875 613 574, eastlothianchristmastrees.co.uk) you can find Nordmann Fir and Fraser Fir up to 25 feet tall (good luck decorating that one all the way up!). This family run business will even collect your tree after the holidays, and use it to keep small animals and birds protected from the elements through the winter.
CrimboTrees (Old Jenners Depository, Balgreen Road, 0131 346 9539, crimbotrees.co.uk) is opening again for business at the Old Jenners Depository on Sat 1 Dec with their selection of Nordmann Fir trees. They cost between £39.95 and £99.95, and £5 from each sale goes directly to the charity Maggie's Edinburgh.
If you would like to pretend, even for a short while, that you are headed somewhere warmer for the holidays, you can go to Conifox Nurseries Tree & Plant Garden Centre (Kirkliston, 0131 333 3334, conifox.co.uk), just five minutes away from Edinburgh Airport. Their Nordmann Firs and Norway Spruces are out on display in all their glory, and once you've chosen your favourite, you can have it delivered straight to your home.
Christmas Trees Direct (christmastreesdirect.co.uk) sells over 30000 trees every year, so they know what they are doing when it comes to a good quality tree. You can choose between fresh cut or pot grown trees, and they deliver all the way up to Fri 21 Dec. Trees start at £29.99, and they are delivered right to your door for free.
Even though they are based in Bristol, White Christmas Tree Farm (0117 3731422, whitechristmastreefarm.co.uk) deliver their selection of pot grown trees, Nordmann Fir and Norway Spruce Traditional all over mainland UK. Prices are between £37.95 and £47.95, and only trees up to 10ft can be delivered outside of the Bristol area.
If you're looking not only for a tree but all the trimmings as well (pun intended), then The Kilted Christmas Tree Company (01577 865 500, kiltedchristmastree.co.uk) has got you covered. They offer a wide selection of packages, from the all out Christmas explosion of decorations to the more subtle touches. Trees start at £24, and delivery is free on orders over £125.
At Scottish Christmas Trees (01387 760 572 / 01387 760 589, scottishchristmastrees.co.uk) you can choose from Fraser Fir, Norway Spruce, Nordman Fir and pot-grown trees, and they also offer a variety of handmade Christmas wreaths. Tree prices begin at the £30 mark, and delivery is free on orders over £125 (otherwise, it starts at £10).
Good Elf (0203 519 9997, goodelf.co.uk) has you covered when it comes to the decorations too, as they stock LED lights and a package deal of a tree fully glammed out. The Nordmann Fir and the Norway Spruce are their trees of choice, costing £54.99 and £44.99, respectively. If you also need someone to collect your tree after Christmas, a £30 charge covers collections from anywhere in the UK.
