Trees, ponds & forest floors will be brought to life at Kew's Botanic Gardens in Wakehurst
Glow Wild winter lantern festival is back for its fifth year and tickets are on sale now. The annual sell-out festival will take place at Kew's Botanic Gardens at Wakehurst in Sussex from 22 Nov - 16 Dec 2018.
The magical night-time experience takes place at the West Sussex estate and nature reserve that boasts over 500 acres of ornamental gardens and woodland. Attendees are invited to absorb the architectural beauty of the 16th century mansion as it provides the perfect backdrop to this year's illuminating event. Glow Wild's huge array of light and sound installations will transform a new part of the estate into a winter wonderland like no other.
A staggering 33,000 plants will be illuminated by fire displays and winter lanterns, making it a truly immersive experience for all the family to enjoy. Guests can opt to become part of the trail, carrying a lantern as they journey through the gardens and woodland areas. Many of the festival lanterns have been specially made by local school pupils and volunteers, making each one unique. Special light features named 'avenue of ancient oaks', 'figures on the mansion pond' and 'crackling cascades of fire' will be on display for 2018.
This year's programme is jam-packed full of activities and families are invited to join in festive crafts, such as lantern making, or can opt to dine on food from a carefully curated selection of stalls. Festive cheer will no doubt be unavoidable with winter warmers of mulled wine, cider, hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts available to be enjoyed beneath the UK's tallest living Christmas Tree.
Glow Wild winter lantern festival runs Thu to Sun from 22 Nov - 16 Dec 2018 at Kew's Botanic Gardens at Wakehurst, West Sussex. Time slots, varying in half hour intervals between 4.30pm and 7.30pm, are available and advanced booking is required.
