What we do
The List sources, gathers, manages, publishes and distributes information on events and entertainment and creates associated editorial content including recommendations, interviews, previews, reviews and features. The company’s primary consumer publishing is a series of award-winning websites.
Alongside our consumer activities, we provide information and services to a range of partners including travel companies, media groups, infrastructure providers, destination marketing organisations and a range of public bodies. We supply event listings, things to do data, food and drink content and editorial material.
Our software developers, based in Edinburgh, build our sites, data systems and other technology, working alongside our team of content producers, editors and writers spread across the UK.
The List has a regular audience of 2.2 million unique users with the great majority accessing our content on mobile devices. The majority of our audience comes from large UK cities including London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Belfast, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, Newcastle, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Bradford, Cardiff and Coventry. Our audience across the content network using our information is in excess of 10m unique users.
We are an independent limited company which started in October 1985, and Robin Hodge, the founding Publisher, is a Director. Our activities were originally focused on Glasgow and Edinburgh with the publication of The List, a consumer arts and entertainment magazine of quality.
Alongside our digital activities, we have a readership for the The List magazine and other publications which varies over the year and is linked to the major events and cycles in the Scottish arts and entertainment scene. The List is a member of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC).
Our other print publishing activities cover the food and drink sector, festivals including the Edinburgh Festivals, city guides, students and music events.
All events listings are published free of charge. We have a summary of our approach to the sourcing of our data, which is in a structured form wherever possible, from venues including theatres, cinemas, festival organisers, galleries and other event promoters. This is supplemented by online submission and further information is provided on how to list a new event and to enhance an existing listing. A growing quantity of articles and features previewing forthcoming events and informative, independent critical comment offers a guide to what is worth seeing and why.
The List provides highly targeted audience for venues, events, promoters, brands and businesses of all sizes both in print and online. There are a range of opportunities and packages available including display advertising, sponsorship, newsletters, content marketing, offers and more.

Content and Information Services
Our events data is gathered, managed, distributed and supplied by our content team of genre specialist alongside a dedicated editorial team information. Together they provide a range of information services to business partners.
The List has a permanent staff of c. 14 people and uses the services of around 200 freelancers in the course of a year.
The List has offices at 14 High Street, Edinburgh, although during current restrictions, we are working remotely.
