Taking place on the wide green expanse of Edinburgh's Meadows, this festival is dominated by a vast selection of stalls selling everything from sweeties to sculpture. There are also tents set up for live music performance and workshops, and a family-friendly funfair. Leith Festival Gala Day

Leith festival Gala Day has become an institution in Edinburgh, with crowds gathering every year to see the pageant (setting off at noon), packed with puppets, bands and dancers, wend its way from Pilrig Park to the Links, where people gather afterwards, whatever the weather, to munch burgers and listen to some funky tunes. There's also a country dancing demonstration by local children (2pm) and the announcement of the winners in the Big Man Walking prize (3pm). Part of Leith Festival.
