The Sage is a major music venue on the banks of the river Tyne in Gateshead. Opened in 2004, the landmark curved glass and steel building was designed by Norman Foster's practice. It contains two large performance spaces, specially designed to optimise acoustics, as well as other multi-purpose rooms, several bars, a brasserie and a cafe. The Sage is home to the Northern Sinfonia and to Folkworks and managed by the North Music Trust. Their aim is to provide a platform for all types of music and to encourage people to get involved in making music through their educational and community projects.
