Documentary about the Attlee government's post-war creation of the welfare state, the sense of national consensus that it created and how many of its achievements were attacked by the Conservatives. Admirable and persuasive, but it could do with a little more lightness of touch.

1. Wilf James16 Jan 2013, 2:03am Report

I wish to obtain information about an event that took place some years ago at the Wyllyotts Centre.
There was a concert organised by the Rotary Club with the Mid Herts Jazz Ochestra on Wednesday 20th November. (The year isn't specified on the programme I have.)
I think that it was 1985 but it could have been 1974 or 1991. These three years all have the 20th November as a Wednesday.
My reason for asking is that I have just taken over the job of publicity officer for the Mid Herts Jazz Orchestra and I am try to gather what information I can about the history of the orchestra. It was founded by the jazz musician Eddie Harvey in 1963. The orchestra is still going strong and gives concerts on the second Monday each month (except in August) at the sports pavilion in Sandridge.
If you have a copy of the same programme you will note that the telephone numbers are missing the 1 after the 0.
The main heading on the programme is:
THE EXCITING SOUNDS OF THE BIG BANDS
There is a useful bit of the history of the orchestra in the programme
I would be obliged if you can tell me anything about this concert or any other concerts given by the orchestra in the Wyllyotts Centre.
Thank you for taking the time to read this request.
