Tell us more about this place.

Menstrie Castle was originally home to a branch of the Clan MacAlister, who later anglicised their name to Alexander. The castle was the birthplace of Sir William Alexander, who became 1st Earl of Stirling and later was James VI's Lieutenant for the Plantation of Nova Scotia. An exhibition in the Nova Scotia Commemoration Room tells the story of this ill-fated scheme. The castle was also the birthplace of Sir Ralph Abercromby (1734-1801).
