Just a stone's throw from St Andrews, this new venture is one part cafe, one part farm shop, with plenty to recommend both. There's a keen focus on beef, game and pork from the estate, with an on-site butcher and the promise of outdoor dining and summer barbeques. Other highlights include hand-churned butter, a well-chosen cheese counter and plenty of Luvian's ice cream to keep young farm-shoppers happy.

I used to be a supporter of the Balgrove. However, recently I overheard the owner trashing his employees and applicants in a restaurant in St Andrews. This was very upsetting because I believe an owner should be supportive of his staff and maintain a level of confidentiality with his applicants. The Balgrove has lost a supportive customer and I advise everyone to steer clear of such a mis-managed place. No Stars.
