The Allotment is about the same size as an actual allotment, which is not entirely surprising. In the last year the little plot has stripped off its gimmicky Juice Almighty persona and, as the apt new name also suggests, has slipped into something a little more home-grown. It teeters somewhere in between Pret and a trendy juice bar, but with more of a home-made spirit and 'feel good food' (their own phrase) much in evidence. Breakfasts of porridge, yoghurt or muesli are stoked up with super foods, while the freshly made juices and smoothies are jazzed up with things like acai berries, fennel and shots of wheatgrass. Lunch options range from noodle pots and ‘hot boxes’, which can vary from mushroom stroganoff to lamb, rosemary and red wine, to sandwiches, wraps and soups which are prepared on the day or made to order. The salads are decently sized and come with a base of superfood staples such as seeds and bean sprouts, and you can build your own. If you’re not the de-toxing type, then a traditional baked potato topped with cheddar is also available, and so are a few cheeky wraps. Furthermore, they’ll deliver them both to your desk.
- High point: Good for a hangover
- Low point: Very limited inside seating
