For many residents, Taste is the only destination in St. Andrews for those who are truly serious about the calibre of their morning brew. This diminutive cafe perches at the west end of North Street, its shoebox dimensions and aquarium-esque front window hosting a charming establishment with more heart and character in a few square feet than venues six times its size have in their entirety. The walls above its careworn leather sofa feature a rotating selection of student-created artwork with board games, books and newspapers piled nearby. There is always a selection of three different coffee roasts and a slew of organic teas to choose from, while the peckish amongst its patrons might opt for one of the many baked goods available, most of which are made fresh on the premises. It’s impossible not to mention the croissants, which are quite simply the best in town. Homemade soups, Panini and sushi are available for lunch, but locating a seat might be a challenge as the cafe is always engaged in brisk trade.
