This review is taken from the current (2012) edition.
What was once the Bruntsfield Post Office has now been transformed into an airy oasis of tea lights and exposed stonework, chocolate brown walls and cream tablecloths. A correspondingly modern yet classic menu accompanies a stunning wine list, offering a generous number of wines by the glass. Father and daughter team Roberta and Annalisa are incredibly proud of their restaurant, and this shines through in the simplest of dishes. A starter of bruschetta is a real burst of sunshine: crisp and chewy, with a punchy, garlicky tang and oodles of tomato and basil. An alternative of walnut tagliatelli with ricotta di bufala is mild, but far from anonymously so. It’s a generous portion – rich and satisfying, but surprisingly light. A main of risotto with hazelnut, pear and duck foie gras is well worth waiting for: well-judged, with the fruit just taking the edge off the richness of the dish. Similarly, a tagliatelli with ragu sings of simple, quality ingredients. Dessert is a little disappointing, and while a chocolate cake with cinnamon cream is fine, it seems a little anonymous after the care taken with the preceding courses.
- High point: A neighbourhood restaurant with gourmet ambitions
- Low point: Not as much care has gone into the dessert selection

Visited Restaurante Ferrari for the second time and WOW!!! The food is simply amazing! I don't think I have ever had such a tasty meal before. The staff are brilliant and the place looks great outside and inside.
This is one of Edinburgh's hidden secrets. If you haven't been, you are missing out.
p.s. love the music too : )

There isn't a bad thing you can say about Ferrari's in Brunstfield. A group of us visited last weekend, we were delighted!
Very fresh food, gorgeous restaurant, very friendly and nice staff and relaxing music in the background too.
We are booked in for next week again. Best Italian in Edinburgh by far!

I bought a "deal" to visit this restaurant and decided to use it last Saturday night. When I went on line to have a look for reviews I was more than a little worried. I needn't have been. I don't recognise the restaurant described in the reviews.
We had a wonderful evening. The decor is lovely and the staff were so attentive without being overly intrusive to us. The menu was small but so carefully balanced. The wine that was suggested was spot on. It is not overpriced, you get what you pay for and we got a very special meal and evening. We will go back and I have been recommending it to everyone I could.

I am absolutely astonished at the previous 2 reviews !
I eat at Ferrari with my partner, or friends every single week because the food, service and atmosphere are all so fantastic ! We live in Brunstfield and eat out several times a week - and Ferrari is always our special treat.
The restaurant and all it's little touches are gorgeously done, the staff could not be more friendly, eager to please and are always up for some banter.
The food wonderfully high quality - we are always delighted with its freshness and flavours. The tiramisu is a must - the best we've ever eaten, despite travelling extensively in Italy and living in London in 15 years.
Ferrari has been such a welcome and fantastic addition to the Bruntsfield restaurant scene - we'll be there to support it.

I visited this restaurant last night (Saturday) with my husband, arrived at 6.30pm and was shown to a lovely table and given a menu plus the specials menu, I thought we were in for a treat, how wrong could I have been. On discussing what we were going to have the waitress had over heard my husband saying he would have the scallops off the special menu for his starter. The waitress came over to say there were no scallops anymore as there had been a big party of people in earlier and they were finished. The restaurant opens at 5.00pm and there was only one other table with 3 people sitting at it and we are talking a SATURDAY evening. We ordered drinks, (they don't have any diet drinks) so I asked for a glass of white dry wine which when it came was not chilled so I asked for some ice to put in it. We ordered our food, 1 portion of Bruchetta, which I must say was lovely and I ordered the pork fillets with a side order of mixed med veg and potatoes for my main and my husband had the Rib eye steak. This is the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant before, the veg was cold so I returned it only to be given a second dish of cold veg again I told the waiter that I felt the veg had been heated up in the micro and was warm on the outside but cold in the inside, I was told that the chef only pan fries them for seconds in order not to lose there flavour and they do not have a micro in the kitchen. I did invite the waiter to taste the cold veg but he declined. As for the pork fillets it was one big fillet in breadcrumbs which was soggy and tasteless with mushrooms and onions on the top in a gravy along with guess what cold courgettes on the side. My husbands stake was over cooked and served on a bed of something that resembled the look of bread & butter pudding with a gravy over it and after tasting was not eaten. We asked for the bill and when the waitress came over I told her my main was not what I had expected and it lacked taste this conversation was obviously over heard and we were then confronted by a most arrogant woman which I can only assume was the manager saying that she would deal with our complaints and she took a hold of my arm as she wanted me to go into the kitchen to see for myself that they did not have a micro. I declined her offer and told her I have never been served cold veg in any restaurant before and she then told me I must normally eat in places where they use micro's. Again we asked for the bill only to be told she did not want us to pay and to leave the restaurant. My husband and I both said we wanted to pay but she refused, I apologised to the staff as it was not their fault and feel sorry for them as they have to serve people food which I am sure will be returned time and time again, so we left. I feel really bad about the whole experience and felt I had to put a review on to let other people know.

I have never left a review before but our experience was so bad that I have felt moved to do so.
The staff were inattentive, but the worst point was the food.
The special of the day, which was cheese wrapped in steak and pancetta, was awful, front of house tried to say the cheese was too strong until other diners had the same experience when it was conceded the meat was off, note that an apology was not forthcoming. My partner had the beef that was literally beef on potatoes drenched in gravy and the side of veg was cold and very small (we are talking a quarter of a carrot and a quarter of an aubergine max).
There are too many nice restaurants in this area to go to this one. In a word, yuck.
