The Conan DoyleReport -
We have lived in the Broughton and Bellevue area for many years and walk past the Conan Doyle many many times, but never really felt encouraged enough to go in and try the food, or even go for a drink.
A day off work and we wander up Broughton Street looking for somewhere to have lunch. Eventually we plump for the Conan Doyle after a quick glance at the menu outisde, and feeling like we want to try somewhere we haven't ventured into before.
Arrived just before the Friday lunch time rush and got a table by the windows. Good position to people watch. The interior was also welcoming and comfortable.
We ordered the chicken stew with thai influenced soup and a vegetable tart plus tea.
Well, what a great surprise! The food was really really good; freshly made and full of flavour, and good value as well. Not your usual disappointing pub fare.
The soup was tasty, with a good portion of succulent chicken and vegetables. The tart was not your usual egg affair but a thin pasrty shell with a good selection of seasoned vegetables accompanied by a herb dressing.
We will certainly return to try something else off the menu.

The Conan DoyleReport -
GREAT after re-opening and then went quickly downhill...!!
We moved to the area around the re-opening of the Conan Doyle and we quickly became weekly customers. The food was great and the atmosphere ideal. We were not the only ones - the place was always packed with customers ranging from a lads to a group of elderly ladies.
I don't know what happened then.. but the food just stopped being good and turned to have the 'cheap microwaved pub scrub' feel. We sampled it twice after that but there was no improvement and I have been too heart broken to go back since.
I really hope they get better soon again.... I loved it.
