This review is taken from the current (2012) edition.
A community café whose set-up was funded by a government grant sounds like a very worthy affair, but such a description, while accurate, doesn't do justice to this fantastic venture serving up home-cooked style Sikh cuisine at the foot of Leith Walk. A slightly sparse layout is balanced by some homely touches and warm welcome from the volunteer staff. At lunchtime the thali selection offers a whistle-stop tour of the short, simple menu and is tremendous value (£7.95). The fish curry is a punchy cumin and turmeric-packed standout and the rich, beautifully seasoned daal is the ideal partner for the fresh, fluffy chapattis. Desserts are too often dismissed on Indian menus, but it would be a mistake to miss the Punjabi speciality gajrela. This gooey, sticky carrot cake tastes like a dish handed down the generations and it fits perfectly with the home-spun, welcoming atmosphere.
- High point: Every dish tastes as though it's cooked with love
- Low point: The slightly spartan interior

Sitting at the bottom of Leith Walk this is such a great little cafe serving Indian (specifically Punjabi) food. The curries (veg, chicken or fish) are delicious and spicier than most, we are not condescended to here. The breads and pancakes fresh and hot. Wash it down with a delicious lassi or spiced tea. Everything has a home cooked feel which is fantastic. Service comes with a geniune smile, you feel as if these women are happy to feed you, like your mum, so eager to make sure you are full and happy. This is the perfect place for a weekend munch before hitting the shops.

Hi just though I would be the first to get my say about this little gem in Leith, the food is delicious just they way my mum makes back home in the Punjab, the staff are all really freindly and open and when you ask any questions about the food they are always happy to explain, I am amazed at these ladies as I have just found out that they all started as volunteers bringing their traditional recipes to the cafe, well done and keep it up, you have put the Punjabi women of Scotland on the map of good food who knows where it will lead to. Gordon Ramsay watch yourself! Seriously as a voluntary org they are doing a great job and the food really is delicious its worth a visit. The cookery lessons are worth a try also
