Reviews of Kitsch Coffee Bar (36 Bernard Street, Edinburgh)

Kitsch-in is a very cosy little place down in Leith - Bernard Street to be precise. It's has quite a modern lay out. The front area is a more general cafe area and the back area is more cosy coffee bar with sofas and armchairs.

They have a decent selection of food on offer, from soup, bacon rolls, and baked potatoes through to their excellent pies from the Farmer's Market.

The pies are seriously good and the main reason I will be back again and again. I've sampled their steak and Newcastle Brown Ale pie, the duck pie and a delicious chicken and ham "pie of the moment". (The "pie of the moment" is a special that changes from time to time)

I, being somewhat gutsy, have two pies. I guess, at this stage I should say that 2 pies equals 2 quarters of a whole slightly less than standard deep plate pie. A "pie" would do a small/average eater but I'd advise two for those with an appetite. Plus, variety is the spice of life and it's worth having two types. The pastry is fantastic and they are totally full of scrummy filling. They come with a small portion of doritos and some coleslaw, which is just enough as the pies are filling.

The coffee is also excellent, and the hot chocolate and mochas exceptionally good! For a lunch outing or even a coffee break with a slice of nice moist carrot cake it's just the ticket!

The only reason it misses out on 5 stars is due to the fact that the tables at the back are too high for the sofas/armchairs. Other than that, I found the food and the service uniformly excellent.
