The Saint is something of a maverick on the Edinburgh bar scene. Not necessarily the best place for a post-work pint of heavy, the elegant interior gives off more of a restaurant vibe than the air of a traditional boozer, although the large fire and comfy seating ensure that it maintains a laid-back atmosphere. And any sacrifice it makes on the conventional pub front it more than makes up for with its extensive wine list and quality food. Indeed, although the menu tends to move with the seasons, you can look forward to the likes of smoked mackerel and horseradish risotto, roasted hake with chorizo, and raspberry mille-feuille, all beautifully presented, bursting with flavour and making you wonder if all the options are equally imperious. This Saint’s halo is certainly sparkling.
- High point: Consistently excellent food
- Low point: Slightly sterile interior

Ate here on Saturday with friends and really enjoyed it. The food was very good and reasonably priced with a varied selection of fish and meat dishes along with some blackboard specials. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the general atmosphere in the place was very nice. Decent wine list too. Very good value for money and will definitely be back.

Went here last night and have to say it is a good find. The food was well cooked and a lovely restful setting. The staff were keen (to say the least) and came over a fair few times for their order however, considering how busy they got later in the evening i can see why and they were always pleasant.
I had smoked duck for starters - a small serving - but packed with flavour. Mussels for main with a side order of home cut chips (this is a bug bear of mine with most restaurants) which were plentyfull and tastsy. Bread and butter pudding with ice-cream Great! Didn't feel stuffed which is a plus and will defo be going back again.
the wine list is fairly priced and decent. Three of us dined on three courses with wine and coffee for just over a 100.00 - bargin i say!

Really good food. Leek and saffron risotto delicious followed by home made ice cream. Good portion sizes and reasonably priced. Friendly and efficient service. We will be back.

Not impressed with this place. The owners have their heads so far up their rears - that it actually taints the food!
What a wasted opportunity spoiled by poor execution. Over priced and pretentious.

I paid £55 deposit for lunch for a party of 11. Unfortunately, The Saint do not have a license that allows children in the restaurant. When one of my friends arrived with her baby son in a push chair - they were refused entry. This limitation was not made clear at the time of booking.
We had to find an alternative venue - The Saint KEPT the deposit.
Arrogant, shortsighted and unhelpful customer service.

Some of the best food to be found in Stockbridge, infact probably the best Bar food I have eaten in Edinburgh...and thats not taking into account almost all mains under a tenner
Sheepskin covered whisky barrels by the fire make a great place to polish off some cracking deserts...genuinely friendly staff , funky tunes and a quirky but calm interior make this a great spot settle down on a wet night or chill out on a lazy Sunday......
but please don't take the chair by the fire....

I love this place - it's relaxed, plays great music, the staff are friendly - & I think the food is really rather good (as is the wine list, lots of which comes by the glass & aren't run-of-the-mill, plus there are always bin-ends to make things interesting). It's a seasonal, local menu, well-balanced between inventive & traditional, & on the three occasions I've eaten there I've enjoyed every dish. Particularly lovely was the cranachan parfait, which was an iced version of the traditional creamy dessert, sliced through to reveal raspberries like little pink flowers ... Pretty as a picture & delicious too.

Friends and I ate here recently and were REALLY impressed. My vegetable stew came with fat sweet potato chips. Yummy. One friend had venison sausages with home made picallily, which I tasted and I wanted a jar! Other friend had seafood risotto which she polished off. And where else can you finish with Buckfast Parfait! Hilarious. And NOT wildly expensive. Going back soon.
