NMS is surrounded by the main buildings of Edinburgh University and just a few doors along from the Inspace venue where many of its projects are displayed. The organisation’s mission is to innovate and challenge, aesthetically, technically and conceptually, with specific reference to developments in science and technology. Previous works include the Alt-w exhibition, showcasing web-based or digital devices and applications; funding partners have included Scottish Screen and the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance. Also of note is DRIFT, the agency’s exploration of sound art and experimental music through audio editions, streaming, podcasts, broadcasts and live events, initially curated by Robert H King.
