Demijohn
One of those completely idiosyncratic ideas that works so well you wonder why it's not more widespread, Demijohn is Scotland's first ever 'liquid deli', with a selection of fine whiskies, olive oils, vinegars, liquers and spices all glistening away in glass jars, and a determined 'try before you buy' policy. Oh, and it's a family-run business, too, which always makes us feel kinda fuzzy inside.

Demijohn claims to be the world's first liquid deli – it stocks whiskies, spirits, oils and vinegars, using British-sourced ingredients wherever possible. The products, for instance sloe gin or damson vinegar, are from small, artisanal producers and often carry few food miles. On occasion, retail staff can be found in a meadow picking fruit for a concoction. Recycling and reusing materials is central to the company's ethos: customers can purchase a bottle then have it refilled in-store.
