Rannoch Smokery was founded in the late 1980s following a bad winter which prevented Ben Barclay's deer cull getting to market. Not to be defeated, he brined and smoked all of his meat, stopping it from going to waste and, in so doing, created the first ever Rannoch Smokery smoked venison. The family business now produces smoked meats, game and poultry, as well as pates and chutneys, and distributes through a wide network of supermarkets and delis, as well as by mail order through their own website.
