The Macsween family’s first butcher shop opened in Bruntsfield in the 1950s and they have been making authentic and award-winning haggis for over fifty years. When the butcher shop closed they created the world’s first dedicated haggis factory, and MacSweens can now justifyably claim to be Scotland's most prominent manufacturer of haggis, with their product widely available around the UK and exports finding their way all over the globe. John MacSween (father of the brother and sister team who now run the business) was instrumental in the creation of the first vegetarian haggis which is made using various pulses. It is approved by the Vegetarian Society and is also suitable for vegans. Black pudding is another speciality.
