Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2012 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

It may be hard, but try not to be waylaid by the sweetie emporium that greets you on first entering S Luca. This is kiddie heaven and it's hard to imagine anyone, even the adults, getting past the selection of chocolates, ice-cream, sorbets and other delights without picking something out as a treat. The meals are served upstairs, however, and once you reach your table there's a decent menu of burgers, pasta and pizza to choose from. 'Lite bites' such as goat's cheese and roast pepper salad or chicken and mozzarella panini add variety, while juniors and seniors have their own mini selection of dishes. A great array of breakfast dishes including hash browns and potato scones are served all day. Lasagne in a rich tomato sauce and a succulent fried chicken fillet are satisfyingly filling, but, as all children know, the best bit is dessert and this is where S Luca excels. Dip into a classic knickerbocker glory layered with admirably fresh chunks of fruit, or amarena cherries on Madeira cake. It's all served with that glorious, silky Luca ice-cream the family has been churning out in Musselburgh for three generations. Let's face it: that's why you're really here, so enjoy!
