The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Not quite in buzzing Leith and some way beyond the Foot of the Walk, Suruchi Too sits discretely behind a grand facade on Constitution Street. Inside this roomy restaurant, the bright and cheery cream and red décor, replete with Indian knick knacks and a giant stuffed camel, provide a warm subcontinent ambience. But a starter of garlic king prawns arrives inexplicably drowned in a bright orange, gloopy sauce and sharabi lamb is surprisingly chewy. Chicken kebab is tender and aloo palak is full of spicy spinach, firm potato chunks and packs a kick. Shashlik chicken in a creamy sauce is rather gritty and too sweet. Due to a commitment to local produce, unusual choices include venison maharaja, but curries here tend towards the familiar British. Service is polite though hurried, with barely time to sniff between courses, and a long menu written in vernacular Scottish, is difficult to trawl and slightly off-putting. Takeaway trade is booming even though the doors here close firmly at 10pm most days of the week.
- High point: Attractive Indian decoration
- Low point: Page after page of 'Scottish Favourites'

Tried this restaurant with a Groupon deal. Was expecting it to be packed as when we phoned to book was given a choice of 6pm or 8pm. Arrived at 8 and hardly any customers. A very clean place with lots of Indian decor. The waiters were friendly and explained everything to us re vouchers. Food took ages but was really tasty when it arrived. I would go again and recommend it to friends. Lots of nearby parking.

Great place. I have only ever been at lunch time but heard it is very popular in the evenings. I thoroughly recommend the set lunch for ONLY £5 consiting off starter, main course AND rice, great value, great choice on menu, and fine ambiance five stars!

This was a strange experience. We went early evening on a Sunday and instead of the interesting looking full menu advertised outside, were given a very limited menu (particularly for vegetarians) without any explanation. Food was bland and uninspiring and the place lacked customers and atmosphere. Shame, because the full menu looked great.
