When Spanish missionaries brought Catholicism to the Bolivian jungle hundreds of years ago, they also brought baroque music, teaching the locals how to play and sing it. When the missionaries were expelled, the music stayed, and the local people carried on the tradition of composing and playing religious music, bringing it over and cross-fertilising it with their own music.
