As a former employee of Armstrong's - celebrated purveyor of vintage clothing in Edinburgh - Gavin O'Brien was the ideal candidate to revive Glasgow's second-hand and retro clothing market with his fabulous and quirky shop, Watermelon. Almost everything in the small, crammed outlet on Great Western Road is instantly wearable, from a fine range of leather jackets, to hats, scarves and more flamboyant pieces such as sparkly 40s-style dresses. Prices are very reasonable too, so you could find yourself queuing to use the small changing room at the back of the shop at weekends - it seems that good news travels fast among the fashionable students and professionals in the West End.
