This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
The Dining Room sits in the ground floor of a restored Georgian townhouse inhabited by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. The interior is surprisingly contemporary, cosy and light, and the restaurant is open all week to non-members. A mega-meaty starter of lamb sweetbreads and tongue is served on potato rösti with leek fondue and sauce diable, while grilled fillet of sea bass sits under a super-fishy cockle and shrimp gratin and smoked eel salad. Mains of wild mallard with beetroot, cabbage hearts and consommé with sloe berries; and roast John Dory with fresh crab, chervil gnocchi and light curry sauce with Sauternes seem over-complicated on paper yet are surprisingly delicate to taste. To round off, coconut sorbet with mango, chilli and mint salad is light and palate-cleansing, while a pear, ginger and cranberry trifle arrives in a martini glass with a satisfyingly zingy ginger beer sorbet on the side. With unfussy service, an unexpectedly weighty wine list, and a consistently high standard of cooking, The Dining Room is a part of the Whisky Society that even non-whisky drinkers will enjoy.
- High point: Consistently excellent food and unfussy service
- Low point: Being unable to go upstairs for an after-dinner whisky without membership

The Dining RoomReport -
I booked a table for 2 with the List Card at The Dining Room and we both loved the place. The setting was smart and welcoming and the service was excellent. The prices are quite high but it is really a wonderful dining experience. We ordered 3 courses and they were all absolutely perfect and amazingly well done, we also had complimentary aperitif and malt whisky for when we were waiting for the starter. Excellent!
