The Regent’s proprietor Alan Joy, who also runs Edinburgh’s popular gay night Joy, pitches his pub the same way he does his club; it’s ‘straight-friendly’. It certainly is friendly, with a relaxed, chatty atmosphere that other Edinburgh gay pubs tend not to allow themselves. There are no DJs, only an otherwise traditional local pub which lets you eat a bowl of stovies or chilli (all snacks are an affordable £1.95) as you take advantage of the Wifi connection, or simply relax on the comfortable Chesterfield sofas with a pint of real ale.
