The Shaftesbury Hotel

The Shaftesbury is a little out west from the city centre, up the Perth Road, but it has plenty to recommend it. Originally built as a mansion for a local jute baron, this large Victorian building is now an extremely welcoming hotel with around a dozen rooms all done out traditionally, in-keeping with many of the building’s original features. It’s a manageable walk to the centre through the thriving main university area, and with two new restaurants open on site, one serving international food, the other Chinese, this makes a decent base for exploring the west of the city.
