This tranquil little riverside café serves cooked breakfasts, lunch, coffees and cakes all day, and high tea 5–7pm. At lunch there is an extensive choice from filled croissants, baked potatoes and quiche to smoked cod fishcakes and five daily specials. The blackboard menu is filled with classic Scottish cooking. Like everything here, desserts are home-made – typical examples are profiteroles with chocolate and Baileys sauce, crème brûlée or apple pie.

We went to The River for evening meals and high teas and we were never disappointed. Great choice - inclusive vegetarian options -, fine dining, pleasant quiet ambiance, friendly staff, very good value for money.
