Old Blackfriars
Send us more details about this place.
This historic pub is a great antidote to the pumping music and jumping customers found in the city's style bars. Blackfriars (the 'Old' is never used by locals) is named after the order of monks that owned land on the nearby former Castlegate market as long ago as 1338. Safe to assume the monks didn’t run a pub but they might have been grateful for the relative modesty of the establishment that took their name. Split across two levels and with some stunning stained glass, Blackfriars attracts a mixed but mellow crowd who appreciate cask ales and pub grub.
