Hamiltons tries to be all things to all people, and it pretty much succeeds. It’s a buzzing bar with pop art strewn walls, a music venue, a stopping-off point for coffee or brunch, a meeting place for business people, and a restaurant with an imaginatively created menu. While staff are happy to serve food in the comfy bar area, a raised dining section is more formally laid out and has a couple of tables ideally placed to watch the world go by. A reduced version of the evening menu is supplemented at lunchtime by sandwiches. The full list includes the likes of pan-fried chorizo with sherry, lemon, chilli and tomatoes, a subtle combination of flavours, served in a small pan and accompanied by a chunk of bread. Mains feature several meaty options, with produce sourced from local suppliers clearly marked on the menu. But it’s difficult to look past a fish stew packed with prawns, haddock, mussels and salmon and served alongside a garlicky croute. A pudding chosen from the blackboard completes the enjoyable dining experience.
- High point: Reasons to visit at any time of day
- Low point: Restaurant area may be too dark for some

Hamiltons Bar and KitchenReport -
I've noticed that most of the reviews on here are pretty old. I would really recommend to everyone to try Hamilton's for themselves at some point - you won't be disappointed! I was recently at Hamilton's for my staff Christmas meal and it was fantastic. It was great value for money and the menu was exciting - not just boring old turkey! The atmosphere in the place was buzzing and you could tell that everyone was having a really brilliant night. The staff were also very friendly and attentive, despite how busy it was.
Since my Christmas meal, I have been in a couple of times for lunch and always leave with a smile on my face. They must be doing something right as I saw them reviewed (very favourably) in BBC's Olive Magazine this month and the cocktails were mentioned in Grazia Magazine! The menus are changed to suit the seasons and I'm looking forward to going again soon to find out what the January menu has to offer. 5 stars!!!

Just came across these reviews and felt compelled to write and address the balance - What are you people talking about? I live in Stockbridge and go to Hamiltons all the time, for drinks, food and sometimes coffee and use the free wifi. The food is amazing......the menu changes all the time, which i love so there is always something new to try. Case in Point, went last week with some friends and i had mussels to start (classic) and the most amazing lamb dish , one of my friends had a crab risotto and the other 2 had burgers. We all love it and shared some home made ice cream which i hear they make on the premises. The place looks great, staff are friendly and know their stuff and you can dress up or down, have dinner or chill on the sofas -- what more would you want from a bar?
ignore any bad reviews and believe the list people who have hit listed this place. It is great. Love it.

Hamiltons Bar and KitchenReport -
I was at Hamiltons for lunch on Sunday and was deeply disappointed.
I waited well over an hour between ordering my lunch and it arriving. I ordered the full Scottish breakfast but what arrived was a 3/4 Scottish. There was no sausage or beans, I understand that they can run out of items but they could at least have the courtesy to mention it when they give you your food. The remaining food was acceptable with the exception of the runny scrambled eggs which were possibly the most vile things I have ever tasted. Finally on the breakfast, if it comes with tea or coffee I do not think you are unreasonable in assuming you will be asked what you want rather than having to hunt down the waitress to request it. But it does not end there.
My wife ordered the fish and chips. It was only when she had eaten about a quarter of it that she noticed it was raw in the middle. When this was brought to the waitresses attention she did not even offer an apology, a discount or at least to get a fresh fish.
I was party of a large party which may explain some of the complaints but if they cannot handle a large booking they should not take them.

Food here is excellent, especially if you don't want to have a full blown meal. There are imiaginative salads, grilled skewers plus the sort of thing you might expect from pub grub like fish or burger and chips - all fresh and crispy. BUT....it is is really, really noisy and difficult to have conversation, especially if you are in a large group of people or, even harder, in a tête-à-tête. It's hard to know just whicb bit of the Stockbridge market they are appealing to here. The bar is lively and fun, but the atmophere doesn't transfer well to the dining area, which is a shame as - even though there was a long wait for food on a busy night - the staff are pleasant and polite.
