Part of the Glasgow-based G1 Group's expansion into Edinburgh, the Granary is a new addition to the Shore's diverse line-up of eating and drinking spots. This mock-traditional pub has a dark timber interior, housing a bar area, a small balcony where food is served, and the main dining space located in a faux library setting, complete with scattered novels and a welcoming hearth. As you might expect in Leith, fish dishes feature heavily and the large portion of salt'n'shake whitebait with vinegar dip comes quirkily served in a brown paper bag. Venison Wellington, stuffed with chicken liver and chanterelle pâté, is a rich mixture of extravagant ingredients. Desserts such as granny smith apple tart tend towards the traditional, and are well done. All the dishes are attractively presented and the quality of food is impressive, but prices seem slightly too high for the casual pub-like atmosphere, loud music and relaxed service. If the Granary is trying to steer Leithers towards the 'gastro-pub' concept, the project is still finding its feet and its identity in that slightly ill-defined zone between dining pub, wine bar and bar-bistro remains, at this early stage in its life, a little unclear.

Went for Lunch last weekend and the service & food was extremely poor. Waited 1 hour for the starters due to a mix up with our order, waited 15 - 20 minutes for drinks and food was greasy and cold so overall not a great experience. Have dined there previously with no problems but would not go back again now as kitchen and front of house struggled with service and no management in attendance to deal with issues. We were not the only ones having a bad experience as there were numerous tables returning food and complaining around us and staff having to apologies to most people in the restaurant. Would not recommend of return.
