I went to The Living Room on Saturday and was sorely disappointed by the food, the waiting staff and the cost.
I went in a large group for a special celebration and was looking forward to enjoying my evening however I left very unhappy.
Firstly the set menu (which groups have to have) at £17.25 for two courses I found expensive. I am vegetarian and the one starter choice and the one main course choice would have been cheaper to buy from the main menu! My main would have been £8.95 so I paid £8.30 for what was quite frankly some soggy fried mushrooms! I did ask for a main off the menu and they did cater for that which was good, however the tagine was a pot of tasteless ratatouille and micro waved cous cous! I ate three mouthfuls and could not bring myself to eat anymore. We ordered by 9 o'clock and just about got our main by 10.30, again it was busy but it seemed that they were understaffed and unable to cater for a large group efficiently and politely.
Our waiter I found rude and although I appreciate that he was very busy and having to deal with a rowdy Saturday night crowd he did not manage his job well and blatantly ignored us. If restaurants do not want large groups then please do not allow them, rather than make large groups feel as though they are in the way. I do not understand the policy of a set menu when surely if the restaurant is full then they have to cook whatever is ordered anyway.
To top it all the waitress accidentally tipped wine down my friends back, admittedly they did give my friend a free glass of wine and a card for her dry cleaning, but again the waiter did not seem to want to help and was rude when we bought the incident up again to see if any other compensation could be made, saying that he may bring out another glass of wine but did not want it to 'go warm on the table'.
I have always found this bar/restaurant pretentious and will avoid it and advise anyone else to do the same.
