Reviews of The Alnwick Garden (The Alnwick Garden Denwick Lane, Alnwick)

1. Disgraceful behaviour by Alnwick Garden Staff, England – 1 August 2010, 11:15pmThe Alnwick GardenReport

Alnwick Garden staff are Disablist, Rude & Chaotic.
After months of preparation, I brought my 85 year old grandmother to Alnwick Garden today. We are staying for five days, and so excited to see the garden we decided to come today for afternoon tea, before getting an electric wheelchair so that we could spend a full day visiting tomorrow.
So I checked the Alnwick Garden website that it was possible to park in the disabled car park with badge which we have, and that it was possible to come at 4pm to have tea and cake without having to access the garden.
The website made it clear that people were welcome to lunch, dinner or have a drink at the bar in the treehouse anytime and that it was fully accessible to disabled patrons.
When we arrived, in the rain, I managed to get her out of the car, with umbrella, to walk the short distance from turning circle into the treehouse and a very rude young woman with a walkie talkie told us to go away as we didnt have tickets for the garden. When I tried to explain to her that we had driven many miles specifically to come to the Alnwick Garden and were so excited to have tea in the treehouse she wasnt interested and insisted that we went away.
She was extremely rude.
I was devastated and my grandmother immediately started to cry.
Many months of planning, waiting for her to be well enough to make the trip were wasted.
We now sit in our B&B and she doesnt want to go to the garden at all now.
I'm absolutely disgusted at the way we were treated and intend to write to the Duchess of Northumberland and complain to her for the way we were treated by her snotty staff.
