A word of warning for anyone thinking about booking an event at Abney Hall... I booked this venue for my wedding in Spring 2012 and had a really bad experience. I will leave a true account and let you make up your own minds.

I booked this venue for my wedding reception and after meeting with the owner and agreeing a price, sent over a cheque 10 months in advance of our date. We spoke to him a number of times after this event to ask some questions in relation to decoration etc. We arranged a meeting 45 days before the wedding however the owner did not even turn up. When we called him to remind him he seemed very confused but came down to meet us and demanded to see our receipt. Obviously we were not carrying it on us, we were quite surprised by his attitude. He basically admitted he had double booked but explained as we had paid a deposit obviously we would have the venue.

In the end we went home to discover that the cheque had never been cashed. This was a silly mistake on our part never to check but a real sign of the owners very disorganised attitude towards events at Abney Hall. They had our contact details throughout the 10 months before our wedding and had spoken to us and seen me in person and still, we were never advised about the situation with the cheque. We offered to pay the whole amount straight away and were rejected. We lost out to whoever else had booked the venue and had to find somewhere else to have our event - very stressful so late in the proceedings!

My key points are this - The venue is clearly disorganised and clearly does not hold with honouring their agreements. For your own sake find another venue.
