I remember, as a lad, watching Fred Trueman and Brian Statham open the bowling for England. Fred and 'George'. What a wonderful opening attack. England has never had better. Whilst it is easy to praise Fred (and he deserves his praise) it is all too easy to under praise Brian. Bowling uphill, into the wind, and never complaining he was an ideal foil for Fred. Many of Fred's wickets have been thanks to Brian tying the batsman down at the other end. The word 'great' is far too often applied to sportsmen (and women) who, quite frankly, do not deserve to be called 'great'. Brian Statham does. He was a true great of English cricket.
