Tell us more about this venue.
Set in the lush greenery of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Inverleith House is a gallery that takes inspiration from its surroundings, with spring, summer, autumn and winter-themed exhibitions according to the season. The spring programme features an exhibition drawn from the garden's archives of drawings, prints, photographs, manuscripts and herbarium/plant specimens, alongside solo exhibitions by contemporary artists such as Vincent Fecteau, Cerith Wyn Evans and the late Louise Bourgeois. Occasionally, it also presents exhibitions and events in the 73-acre landscaped grounds and in the glasshouses. Examples include exhibitions by Jim Lambie, Franz West and Lothar Baumgarten and performances of compositions written for plants by John Cage. It is one of the only botanical gardens in the world to have a programme of exhibitions that spans contemporary art and botanical science. The John Hope Gateway, a biodiversity and information centre, is a relatively new addition to the gardens, and a shining example of green construction and sustainability.
