Stereo can be found rather unassumingly in an alleyway close to Glasgow Central station housed in a rather grand Mackintosh-designed, listed building. The interior is thankfully functional rather than 'mockintosh', with basic tables and chairs. The large windows give the space a light and open feel – not dissimilar in style to a rather nice but functional student union bar. Below the bar is a live music venue, making the restaurant busy on gig nights. The ethos of the menu is to be vegan and organic as much a possible – though they do offer cow's milk in coffee if you ask. Boasting a hearty selection of soups, snacks, pizzas, chillies and small plates, the true breadth of the vegan diet is catered for. The fried haggis is a delight and comes looking a bit like a fish supper, served with chips. The haggis is light and spicy with a nice crunch to it. The pistachio cake for dessert is excellent; mottled green, nutty and not too sweet. If all vegan food were this good we'd all want to save the planet and eat this way.
- High point: A welcoming dining space, light and spacious
- Low point: A wobbly table

Reviews of Stereo (20-28 Renfield Lane, Glasgow)

Caught Jo Mango's set at Studio, Glasgow on Sunday night. This bonnie lass gently draws you in to an ethereal world of beauty and musical simplicity. I have never attended a gig where such a peaceful hush descends on a room whereby everyone is transported to Jo's lyrical heaven a place which is so gentle it is heart liftingly stunni...ng. I defy anyone to try to perform with such seeming simplicity, they would fail. This is a standard Jo carries on her own. She connects beautifully with the audience between songs, for a girl who has travelled round the world and back with her music she retains her natural aura loveliness. This is a uniquely, gifted artist whose loses herself in concentration when singing and gives fully of self. Was a joy to hear her voice soar over the vocal harmonies during black sun. Sonically heavenly, visually pure
