since seeing Barnhill rock garden on the beechgrove garden a few months ago, my wife and I have been avid visitors to the garden, I must say the selection of herbaceous perennials and alpines is a great credit to the volunteers and Dundee city council however I did notice yesterday, 22nd of july, the garden had suffered from an(apparently) global phenomenon namely the flowering and subsequent death of phyllostachys nigra, I also fell victim to the same (natural) event, but on visiting Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, I happened to mention this occurrence to a group of gardeners who pointed me at a nearby person (from the gardens) who it was said was an expert in the bamboo groups, his advice to me was cut the bamboo to the ground and HOPE the it regenerates, so I did just that, I must say with no great hope of success, so I put an acer in a pot on top of the spot where the bamboo had been, this was about two months go, so you can imagine my surprise last week when I moved the pot to do a bit of weeding to discover a new crop of shoots from the plant, take my advice, don't give up on it and thanks to excellent advice from that chap in Edinburgh I managed to save what I thought was lost cause, when I last spoke to one of the gardeners from Barnhill he mentioned they were hoping for a "GREEN FLAG", I sincerely hope they got it, because I can think of no other garden my wife I have visited that has given us so much pleasure, regards
