Eating & Drinking Guide 2008

The List's Eating & Drinking Guide 2008 is now in the shops.

This review is from the 2007 edition.

One of Bath Street's busier style bars, Bunker thrives on consumer desire for a bargain. The pre-theatre menu has two courses for £10 from 5-7pm and all drinks are £1.20 all day Tuesday and Thursday. These promotions, the disappearance of the live stage (in favour of pool tables) and the extension of the bar licence till 3am on Friday and Saturday have changed Bunker's character somewhat. The clientele is increasingly likely to be students, and the bar feels more like a self-contained, all-night venue. The food menu is a straightforward selection of sandwiches, burgers and wraps - plus international favourites, such as chilli with pita bread, red Thai curry or stir-fries. The pasta selection essentially doubles as the vegetarian section. As with the tiger prawns, chicken goujons are coated in a crispy tempura batter and served with a choice of dips. The lightly blackened Cajun chicken is deceptively piquant in a tomato and chilli sauce, while the cheese and bacon burger is a home-made, irregularly shaped hash of beef that's gratifyingly juicy and charred.
