Pivo Pivo was one of Glasgow's first pubs to serve an extensive range of world beers - from Argentinian Quilmes to Kirin from Japan - and still largely trades on punters' tourism. Located right beside Central Station, its small bar area lies at the foot of a steep staircase, with a bigger back room of leather banquettes and stools surrounded by a frieze of Prague street scenes - along with the name, the only remnant of an eastern European theme. The biggest food draw is the pizzas, available two-for-one, all day, every day. These come with a thin, crisply-baked crust and a generous amount of melted cheese (although the chicken 'feast' has too little meat to warrant the title). Burgers and panini are also popular, and there are some nods to world food: fajitas, noodles and a warming (if watery) goulash brimming with soft chunks of beef, sausage and potato. Most items are eminently affordable, even more so if one opts for food deals such as the various £4.95 lunch offers. Dance-orientated music increases in volume as afternoon moves into evening, when two screens of sports become an equally dominant feature.
- High point: Still one of the best ranges of beer in town
- Low point: Feels a bit tired
Pivo Pivo is a cutting edge live music venue in the heart of Glasgow, home to both emerging and established home-grown talent as well as touring acts from further afield.
