There is something special about Moyra Jane's. Every visit leaves you feeling well nourished and well looked after by the friendly, chatty staff. The café's exterior is reminiscent of fin de siècle Montmartre with art nouveau font, and the interior continues the continental Parisian feel with marble table tops and wooden panels. The atmosphere is conducive to long intimate dinners over a bottle of wine. The menu reflects this refreshingly old-fashioned integrity and the food is consistently good: Arbroath smokie baked ramekin, home-made burgers, Moroccan lamb tagine and the nostalgic Moyra's macaroni with a spicy cheese crust. The owners will never install Wi-Fi because part of their ethos is to promote conversation while enjoying good food. Long dinners and late-night conversation inevitably ends with something sweet and you will be daft not to order one of their fabulous desserts. The crème brûlée is topped with that perfect layer of hard caramel, and the large home-made meringues come joined together with fresh whipped cream and a ring of strawberries.
- High point: Great for a leisurely dinner any night of the week
- Low point: Vegetarian options not as interesting as the meat dishes

Moyra Jane'sReport -
We went to Moyra Jane's for lunch after reading the review in the latest Eating & Drinking Guide. Lunch was excellent so we decided to come for an evening meal - partly tempted by the eve meal offer of 2 courses for £11.95 and 3 for £13.95.
The service is superb - everyone is friendly and attentive and the food was delicious - a real find! The starter I had was one of the best I've ever tasted (Arbroath smokie ramekin) and both of us had the lamb tagine for mains - really really tasty without being over spiced with lots of tender lamb and fruit. Would really recommend!
