Tell us more about this venue.
The New Town gallery Sleeper was started by artist Alan Johnston and architect Neil Gillespie in 2000 as an archetypal ‘white cube’ gallery to showcase national and international art. It has strong links to other venues around town, such as Stills, Collective and Inverleith House, which were all built – or in Inverleith House’s case, renovated – by Reiach and Hall Architects, the artistically-minded practice where Gillespie works. The gallery has exhibited works by artists such as Richard Dunn, Peter Noser and Douglas Gordon and Alan Johnson. It sells publications based on previous exhibits and some of its further-flung links, such as the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness, Orkney.
