Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

Perched on a main road heading out of town towards Duddingston, Radical Road is a bit off the beaten track. This mock Tudor property has gone through a number of reincarnations, and is now billed as a traditional Scottish pub with a separate contemporary dining room. The bar has a rustic feel with a scattering of mismatched furniture, shelves of old toys, alcohol related paraphernalia and a variety of board games for their clientele of locals and tourists staying nearby. There is a limited menu of bar snacks on offer to accompany local ales, such as impressive garlic bread and Rob Roy’s Platter – succulent haggis, potato wedges and Drambuie dip. For something more substantial, head to the restaurant area for fish and chips, steak pie, burgers, Sunday roast and a small selection of more refined dishes based on seasonal ingredients. There's live music in the bar every Friday and Saturday night.

  • High point: Good intentions of owners and staff
  • Low point: Choice of dishes can be very limited as popular options run out

Great to have a pub of this calibre in the area, as the Sheep Heid seems to to be now run by a plonk.
Nowhere else in the Northfield/Duddingston area is as good, as the RR.
Food - excellent, live music - great.
Lunch meals -excellent quality - good chefs - friendly and professional staff.
Small gripe - the house wine could be cheaper !

What a find! We enjoyed great food and live music from "The Tonkerers" on Friday night. What a great start to the weekend. Will definitely be going back again - a short walk home and no looking for taxis is always an added bonus too.

its about time this place was noticed by a foodie magazine, I have been going in there for a few months now ...........its a total standout, not just in local terms, but in the edinburgh food scene, these folk know their stuff, the scallops are stunning, the steaks sublime, but that faux foie gras starter is to die for, wine list is original and exciting, and the staff top marks, and I just love that Scottish thing going on, its just shows what can be done to an old run down pub, with a bit of vision and expertise, you have just gotta go!!!!better than anything locally by a million miles.
