This review is taken from the 2011 edition.
Mimmo’s is one of three international restaurants which sit side by side like a dining oasis in this part of north Pollokshields. Inside the décor is smart and crisp, and the service is good, warm and friendly. To start, the mushrooms stuffed with mozzarella and tomato, deep-fried in breadcrumbs are generous and tasty as is the bel paese in carrozza – an Italian hard cheese wrapped in breadcrumbs and fried. As well as mains of steaks, fish, veal, chicken and pizzas, there are, naturally, a large selection of pasta dishes on offer. Spaghetti allo scoglio features a generous amount of seafood including prawns, clams, mussels and squid with a langoustine on top – good value at £12.95. The kitchen plays a little safe with the tomato, chilli and garlic sauce, which would have been better if bolder with more spicy kick. Desserts feel like an afterthought in many Italians and Mimmo’s follows that trend with a cheesecake that is nothing out of the ordinary.
- High point: Not selfish with the shellfish
- Low point: Flavours could be bolder
