Quicker than you can say 'tablet computer', there's a grimly punning new restaurant, Thai Pad, on the scene. It is, in fact, a new incarnation of the fairly short-lived Love You Long Thai restaurant in the basement of the Richmond House Hotel on London Road. The takeaway arm of the operation, an evolution of the former Spicebox, also has a new name, Thai Pod. Those familiar with the former ventures will see similar menus from the same set of chefs, with the main changes being to the ownership of the business and the names. Specialities of the house include neat, thick-finger sized spring rolls, goong fong beer prawns in batter with a mango chilli sauce, and mains such as gaeng sab nok pla – Thai fish dumplings in a quick curry of green chillies, galangal, lemongrass, aubergine, lime leaves, coconut milk, fish sauce and palm sugar. Try things out on their Tuesday night taster sessions: booking is required and you need a minimum of four people in the group, but for £25 a head it's all you can eat and the first drink free, with all main courses available. Thai PadReport -
We went for a meal on Friday 17th June 2011. What a lovely place. Great food, beautifully presented and the taste matched the presentation! Thai food at its best. The restaurant was lovely to sit in, from the wonderfully carved table to the warm friendly and attentive service. The cosy bar and great decked area at the back really makes this place one to watch ! Thank you for such a warm welcome, and we will be recommending to all !
