Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

The Admiral has long been an unsung vehicle for the local music scene. Sitting just deep enough within Glasgow's side streets to offer some kind of momentary escape from the city's immediate hustle and bustle, the basement venue area regularly plays host to live acts from across the country and beyond as well as having recently played its part in cross-city festivals such as Hinterland. Upstairs you'll find a reliable, traditionally themed bar, stocked to offer everything from a quiet post-work pint to something that little bit stronger. The focus on music bleeds into the hi-fi too, offering a chilled yet markedly more enjoyable soundtrack than your average old school drinking hole. Though undoubtedly a bar first and foremost, the Admiral also offers its fair share of pub grub, producing quality takes on stands and classics, even throwing in a two-for-one pizza deal you'd be foolish to argue with.

  • High point: Good music across both floors
  • Low point: Limited food serving times
