Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

It is worth taking the time to trawl through Bar Gambrino’s extensive drinks list. Although its sheer length may leave some drinkers flummoxed, there is truly something to suit every taste including rarities such as the Argentine brew Quilmes, or a sharp mojito that may earn the nod from non-beer drinkers. For the more adventurous, sampling the beer of the week is a must, whether solo or accompanying a dish from the varied menu. The food is of high quality, and is enhanced by a strong policy of sourcing produce locally. The beef stroganoff is a fine example, prime Scottish sirloin steak served in a flamed brandy and cream sauce. Chicken supreme is also recommended, if mainly for the fantastic peppercorn sauce with which it comes. Whether you choose to eat from the main menu, or opt for a two-for-one pizza – available all day, every day – be sure to sample a dessert, where chocolate fudge cake or sticky toffee pudding are not to be missed.

  • High point: Impressive array of beers
  • Low point: Flashing fairy lights spoil the mood

Not convinced.
After a couple of visits I have found the place dead most nights and food poor.
Lots of corners cut... especially on the 2 for 1 offer (making it more like 1/2 for 1)
Have a look and make your own mind up... but don't be unduly swayed by the planted advertising language reviews above.

2. Leona, Kelvinbridge, Glasgow – 25 November 2010, 3:22pm4 starsBar GambrinoReport

Cosy pub right by Kelvinbridge subway. Pizzas are delicious and good value with a buy one, get one free offer on all day. Menu changes every now again and it's a definate notch above the usual pub grub. There's a massive selection of beers from all over and they're all served in ice cold glasses straight from the freezer (amazing in summer). Noticed they've got a cider in now you can have warm if the cold glasses don't appeal! Staff are young and friendly and the quiz on a Sunday is always a good laugh.

Previously operating as a Beir Halle, Bar Gambrino retains the wide selection of world beirs and now also has the same wine list as Gambrino restaurant across the street.
The food on offer is excellent, for pub grub the steak burger is in a league of its own. Generous portions and reasonably priced considering the west end location. 2 for 1 pizzas are also on offer which is always a favourite.
Table service, huge selection of beirs, a restaurant class of wine on offer and excellent food make this my favourite west end location.
